A SMALL SURPRISE

SPRING CAME TOO SOON...

Hello beasties!

Just a quick post this time - but then I never actually promised one this week as I'm away now for a few days. I'm working on something to post from my away-ness, right now - but - as they used to say on Blue Peter - here's one I prepared earlier...

I've a short prose piece for you, inspired by a little trip I made to Hampton Court on Saturday 16th January 2016 - my first proper day trip of the new year. It was the second year in a row that Toby and I have been there in January - but the weather was sunny and it was nice to be outside. Not only did we look around the grounds, but we also went into the house and had Hula Hoops (crisps) and hot chocolate as a mini-lunch; everything else was a bit expensive and we live nearby - so had some cheese and biscuits when we got in! Anyway, all in all we had a nice few hours out... Even all the parents and their screaming kids failed to spoil it!

The one thing we did note was that the mild winter had tricked the plant world into thinking that it was time to start growing things again and this is what I have written about for our brief prose piece today...

Next time I really will be sharing with you photos from a nice location - but for now enjoy the new prose piece, written for you between Saturday 16th and Wednesday 20th January 2016. However, before you do that, if you've not yet noticed I did release a new script novel, HOT STUFF!! last week - and here are the details...

We are proud to announce the very first season of, HOT STUFF!!, an 8-part adventure involving a series of bizarre deaths in a library. Our hero, Mr Horner, arrives after the previous librarian is murdered. He has never shelved a book in his life, but intends to find the killer. Horner and his team soon learn what the killer is after and fear that there is more bloodshed yet to come… This is the paperback version of this book and is intended to be read as a novel, although it could be performed as a script if required.

Paperback Edition: http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/hot-stuff---season-one/17661919 (£7.99, 160 pages)

Hardback Edition: http://www.lulu.com/content/hardcover-book/hot-stuff---season-one/17661930 (£14.99, 160 pages)

I'll have another script novel for you in a month or two - not to mention my new book of stories and poems, A YETI WAY OF THINKING - which will finally be ready; it's been a long time coming!

That's it for now - enjoy SPRING CAME TOO SOON! It's coming right up...

More soon!

Yeti hugs...

Paul xx

SPRING CAME TOO SOON...

Spring came too soon...
Tricked from its slumber by the mildness of winter...
At first reaching tentatively for the light -
Snaking to the surface to emerge into fresh January air...
But flowers do not keep calendars;
Living by instinct and the tradition of the seasons...
Nature's clock ticks, awaiting the alarm -
Waiting for the time to renew growth...
But nature does not always play by the rules -
It is full of lies - of tricks and pranks...
This is the deceit of winter...
Breaking the rules because it can...
Why are these cruel games so amusing?
Confusing the plants and for that matter the animals too...
The beasts, those that hibernate, are awoken...
Shaken from their sleep and are told...
"Now is the time for you to wake... Now is the time for you to emerge..."
And as innocents they believe it too and -
Are lured out into the fleeting rays of sunshine...
Unaware that tomorrow the frost will come - that the snow will fall...
By then it may be too late to return to the warmth underground...
It will be too late to rally against any of it...
"I never meant to show my face - I never would, had I known...
Had I realised that winter was still hiding out here...
None of this is fair... I had so much life in me..."
Too bad.
Standing there in the gardens, wrapped up warm -
I can almost hear them - calling out their final protests.
The ghosts of flora and fauna who grew too soon...
Who emerged from safety into a dangerous world...
They are still here and haunt these paths...
Every year joined by new sacrifices -
Who died before their time - without chance of survival...

HOT STUFF!! IS BOILING OVER!!!

SEASON ONE IS FINALLY RELEASED!!

Hello beasties!!

I'm pleased to be able to release that HOT STUFF!! - SEASON ONE is finally published! Here are the details, followed by some choice extracts from the first season...

We are proud to announce the very first season of, HOT STUFF!!, an 8-part adventure involving a series of bizarre deaths in a library. Our hero, Mr Horner, arrives there after the previous librarian is murdered. He has never shelved a book in his life, but intends to track down the killer. Horner and his team soon learn what the killer is after and fear that there is more bloodshed yet to come… This is the paperback version of this book and is intended to be read as a novel, although it could be performed as a script if required.

Paperback Edition: http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/hot-stuff---season-one/17661919 (£7.99, 160 pages)

Hardback Edition: http://www.lulu.com/content/hardcover-book/hot-stuff---season-one/17661930 (£14.99, 160 pages)

Now, for your interest, I am going to present you with a trio of extracts from three of the first season HOT STUFF!! scripts. Three quite dramatic (and slightly silly moments)!!

SCRIPT 2 EXTRACT: THE SÉANCE ...

BACK IN THE OFFICE THE SÉANCE CONTINUES…

FATIMA:

Fiona, do you hear me? Please speak with us…

ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BURNT ROOM SEEMS TO BLUR AND WHAT CAN BE SEEN, INSTEAD, IS THE LIBRARIAN’S OFFICE AS IT WAS BEFORE THE FIRE – IN FACT AS IT WAS ON THE VERY NIGHT THAT THE FIRE TOOK PLACE…

MAVIS: (surprised by what she sees)

Oh! Look! Something’s happening! Everything is changing!

EDIE: (excited, slightly afraid)

Oh! It’s working! It really is! Fiona must be trying to speak to us…

FATIMA: (her voice becoming more sing-songy)

But WHO will she choose to speak through… Perhaps the one who most resembles her physically or mentally… Concentrate everyone! Concentrate! FIONA! SPEAK TO US… SHOW US WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU…

SUDDENLY THE CURTAINS BY THE WINDOW BILLOW AND A BREEZE SWIRLS AROUND THE ROOM WHICH MAKES THEM SHIVER… THE AIR IS FILLED BY SOME KIND OF SPIRIT BEING AND EDIE AND MAVIS LOOK TO SEE WHO IT WILL POSSESS. SURPRISINGLY IT CHOOSES NEITHER THEM NOR FATIMA BUT SETTLES UPON HORNER AND SPEAKS THROUGH HIM…

HORNER: (his voice is different, somewhat melodramatic)

It was a stormy night… A bad night… My last night – the night of my death…

FATIMA: (relieved, excited)

GOOD GRIEF! FIONA? IS THAT YOU? HAVE YOU JOINED US?

HORNER:

It is I, Fatima…

EDIE: (rather in awe)

Wow! It’s actually working! Cor Blimey! Strike a light… I wasn’t expecting that!

MAVIS: (slightly shocked)

Me neither… How odd that she chose Mr Horner… (to Fiona) How are you, dear?

HORNER: (quite chatty considering)

I’m fine! It’s not really so strange – you’re all my family in different ways, but I grew up with Horner’s mother – even before I met you! Anyway, the last time I saw Horner I bought him dinner – so he owes me a favour… It seems only fair…

FATIMA: (trying not to sound impatient)

I’m sure he wouldn’t mind, Fiona… Listen, we may not have much time… Do you know what occurred that night? Did someone try and hurt you? Try and kill you?

HORNER: (sombrely)

I was prevented from reaching the fire… I could not rejuvenate myself… It is possible that somebody may have drugged my hot chocolate – I did feel very sleepy and I remember that I couldn’t move… I don’t remember seeing an actual person – but I do recall opening my eyes and seeing the fire all around me…

SCRIPT 5 EXTRACT: THE EXPERT

MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE FRONT DESK ARTHUR AND JACKSON ARE STILL NOT SEEING EYE TO EYE ABOUT HOW TO MIND BUTCH (A JOURNALIST WHO IS THEIR HOSTAGE) AND YET ALSO HOW TO DEAL WITH THE EVER GROWING QUEUE OF READERS…

ARTHUR: (grumpily peering into the area behind the desk)

Are you actually doing anything in there?

JACKSON: (rather forthrightly, rudely)

What do you think I’m doing? I’m guarding the prisoner…

BUTCH: (crossly)

I am NOT the prisoner… I’m just a journalist who is sitting here inside a cupboard!

ARTHUR: (snippily)

Shh now; it’s the same thing! You are the prisoner and you’re also extremely bad!

BUTCH:

I’m not the prisoner – I’m here of my own choice… If I wanted to leave then I could. I’m actually observing you so I can write an article about how cruel you are!

JACKSON: (surprised, chuckling)

Oh really? And will the Police be making comment on all this? I mean, for a start, impersonating a vicar – now that’s got to be against some law or other…

BUTCH: (almost snarling)

Probably the same law that says that you’re not allowed to hold hostages in public libraries and inflict on them excessive snoring and inane chatter…

JACKSON: (losing patience)

Oh… So you’re a hostage now… I thought you were here of your own choice…

ARTHUR: (heatedly)

Don’t talk to him any more – he’s wasting our time… Lock him in and leave him – we’ll feed him later; he won’t get out – there’s no other exit… Is Felix still asleep?

JACKSON:

(shouts) FELIX!!! Wake up…

FELIX: (disorientated, snorting)

Hey? What?! I heard you – I was just concentrating…

JACKSON:

Yes… See – he’s fine…

ARTHUR: (kindly)

Felix… Come with me – stretch your legs… You need a break…

FELIX: (apologetic, still sleepy)

Sure… Fresh air sounds a good idea! Sorry, Arthur – I must have dropped off…

BUTCH: (mutters)

Dropped off!? That almost makes it sound like something peaceful…

JACKSON: (smiling briefly)

You’ll be glad of the peace and quiet, no doubt…

BUTCH IS ABOUT TO PROTEST – BUT JACKSON HAS ALREADY DEPARTED. BUTCH SITS THERE, LOOKING GRUMPY – BUT THEN HE DOUBLE-TAKES, SUDDENLY REALISING THAT A FIGURE IS STANDING IN THE SHADOWS…

BUTCH: (surprised)

Hey… Who’s that? Who are you? I’m being held hostage – can you help me?!

THE FIGURE IS ALL IN BLACK AND ITS FACE IS CONCEALED BY A PAIR OF BLACK TIGHTS – IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL WHETHER IT IS A MAN OR A WOMAN; HOWEVER THE FIGURE APPROACHES AND KNEELS DOWN…

How did you get in here? I do hope that you’re not here to hurt me… Please!

FIGURE: (husky, androgynous)

I was always here… Just waiting for the right moment…

BUTCH: (slightly confused)

Always? What!? Since you were born?

FIGURE: (mocking)

No, you idiot… Only since I knew you’d be here… Since we could talk alone…

BUTCH: (apologetic)

Oh, sorry… So, what’s the deal? Do you work for the paper or are you a library employee and want to sell your story? We can arrange that if you let me go free…

FIGURE: (sympathetically)

I’m afraid I don’t want to say, right at the moment… Still, I will let you free and I do support your right to do so… Why not have another go with your plan, maybe…

BUTCH: (unsure)

Okay, only I’m not sure my old plan will work now that my cover is blown… Still, maybe I can come up with something else – some other way of succeeding…

BUTCH FEELS HIS HANDS AND LEGS BEING CUT FREE – BY THE TIME HE STANDS UP THE STRANGE FIGURE HAS VANISHED INTO THE SHADOWS.

SCRIPT 7 EXTRACT: THE INVESTIGATION

OUTSIDE THERE IS A FULL MOON – TIME PASSES AT SPEED AND GRADUALLY DAY DAWNS ON THE LIBRARY AND THE SUN DULY RISES… WE SEE HORNER AND FATIMA STILL IN THE LIBRARY – THEY ARE BOTH ASLEEP AND SLUMPED UP AGAINST THE SUIT OF ARMOUR… WE SEE THEM FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF SOMEBODY WHO APPEARS TO BE HIDING. SUDDENLY THE OFFICE DOOR SWINGS OPENS – IT IS ARTHUR…

ARTHUR: (unexpectedly jovial)

Wakey! Wakey!

HORNER: (annoyed with himself)

Oh… Gosh… Arthur… What time is it?

ARTHUR:

After opening time – but I’ve not opened up yet… We got a phone-call. The new librarian will be here any time now and no doubt the police will be back too… One way or another I think we’re going to have a very busy day ahead of us!

FATIMA: (looking more awake than one would have expected)

Indeed! But don’t worry, Horner; we’ve more important things to deal with here!

HORNER: (having considered the matter)

I suppose you’re right… Let this new librarian talk with the Police, do you mean?

ARTHUR: (curious)

Tell me now… Why exactly is this suit of armour lying about in the way, here?

FATIMA: (cheekily)

That’s a long story… Let’s just say that he wanted to stretch his legs…

ARTHUR: (confused)

That sounds unlikely – but I’ll take it as a legitimate response if it’s the only one that I’m going to be presented with… I say? Did you hear that? I thought I heard a voice – do you hear it? Doesn’t it sound rather like Edie, only a tad muffled – but it can’t be her – she’s out front waiting for the new librarian to arrive…

FATIMA: (trying not to sound as concerned as she is actually becoming)

Perhaps you should check on Mavis, Horner and I’ll go down front with Arthur.

HORNER NODS AND FATIMA AND ARTHUR HEAD OFF – HORNER STANDS FOR A MOMENT, TRYING TO LISTEN TO SEE IF HE CAN HEAR EDIE’S VOICE. HE NOTES THE FALLEN LADDER BUT DOES NOT SEE THE LEAD AS THE SUIT OF ARMOUR BLOCKS THE VIEW. HORNER TURNS AWAY – ONLY A SECOND OR TWO LATER THERE IS A SHIMMER OF REALITY AND EDIE AND FELIX EMERGE INTO THE FIRE-DAMAGED LIBRARY… MEANWHILE, OUT AT THE FRONT OF THE LIBRARY OTHER EDIE WAITS CALMLY ON HER OWN – THE FRONT DOOR CREAKS OPEN AND JACKSON ENTERS…

OTHER EDIE: (innocently)

Oooh… Are you the new librarian, dear?

JACKSON: (laughs)

Me? No… But the new leader has arrived and will be here in just a minute…

FATIMA AND ARTHUR APPEAR AT THIS POINT… THEY ARE BOTH A LITTLE OUT OF BREATH AND EAGER TO KNOW WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON…

FATIMA: (attempting to sound upbeat)

So, what’s happening here? Have we missed anything?

JACKSON: (a bit more upbeat than usual)

Edie asked if I was the new librarian… As if! They’re not here yet – but it won’t be long… I’m just going to put the kettle on… Where are Horner and Mavis?

FATIMA: (trying to sound calm, but clearly on edge)

They’ll be down in a minute… Horner has just gone to fetch her…

JACKSON:

Alright then, I won’t be long… Your new boss should be here any minute…

AS JACKSON HEADS OFF DOWN THE LIBRARY, OTHER EDIE AND ARTHUR NOD AND TURN BACK TOWARDS THE FRONT DOOR WHILST FATIMA MUTTERS TO HERSELF; BECOMING INCREASINGLY SUSPICIOUS…

FATIMA: (mystified, to herself)

Something’s not right… Why did he say YOUR new boss? Why not OUR new boss? He clearly knows something – oh, Jackson – what have you got yourself involved in now? Come on then – show yourself – whoever you are…

MEANWHILE, IN ANOTHER PART OF THE LIBRARY HORNER IS SEARCHING FOR MAVIS – HE CANNOT FIND HER IN THE ROOM WHERE SHE WAS LAST SEEN WITH THE EGG – BOTH SHE AND IT ARE NOW GONE!!

HORNER: (calling out, but cautiously)

MAVIS!!! MAAAAAAAVIS!! MAVIS…

A FIGURE, BOTH MENACING AND LUDICROUS AT THE SAME TIME, STEPS OUT IN FRONT OF HIM – IT IS THE SINISTER FOAM BOOK MASCOT…

(trying not to sound nervous) Mavis? Is that you? MAVIS?

THE BOOK DOES NOT ANSWER BUT PLODS CLOSER – HORNER BACKS AWAY ONLY TO REALISE THAT HE HAS COME UP AGAINST A WALL. THE COSTUMED FIGURE PULLS AN AXE ON HIM – IT APPEARS TO BE FROM THE SUIT OF ARMOUR THAT THEY RECENTLY MOVED. HORNER KNOWS HE MUST RETALIATE OR ELSE HE WILL BE THE NEXT VICTIM… THE FIGURE RAISES THE AXE AND BEARS VIOLENTLY DOWN ON HORNER…

TO BE CONTINUED...

Well, if you would like to read more then you can do so - by going to the link at the top of the post... I'm currently working on the 4th season of HOT STUFF!!, with the 2nd season due out later in the year.

Next time we'll be moving onto something different... I've got a little trip coming up and so I expect the post to be about that, but not for a week or so... There should also be some new writing and photographs to come and I look forward to sharing those with you sometime towards the end of the first week of February.

More soon!

Yeti hugs,

Paul xx

P.S. I've been asked where the face on the cover of the book comes from - I am happy to share that information with you, but I don't have a lot of facts about whether or not it represents a certain demonic force or other - or whether it has any particular name. I took the photo during one of my many trips to Venice and have pretty much done so on each of my visits from 2005 onwards. I can't tell you the name of the street where the figure is on the wall - but would happily take you there if anybody would like to finance another trip out there... Most kind.

HOT STUFF!! IT'S HOTTING UP!!

SEASON 1 SCRIPT TITLES REVEALED!!

Hello beasties!!

This week, before we reach the main point of this post, I would like to briefly point out that this is our 350th post!! We're not looking too bad considering that we were founded circa 2002! Next year will be our 15th year! Some anniversaries I like to look back into the past of this blog, but on this occasion, with a new book (or even two!) out almost any day now, it seems more fitting to focus on that... If you'd like to look back then you are, of course, welcome to... Just get clicking!!

And so... We turn our attention back to one of those new projects... Last time we looked at the characters involved in our new series - whereas this time were going to be looking ahead at the scripts for season one of HOT STUFF!! I'll do my very best not to slip in any spoilers, of course...

HOT STUFF!! – SEASON ONE

SCRIPT 1:  THE EMERGENCY

Horner arrives at the Spectrum Central Library after a fire killed his friend, the former librarian. Horner suspects the truth behind her death in the blaze – but exactly who can he trust to share this information with; for it is no ordinary death!

SCRIPT 2:  THE SÉANCE

Horner calls up his old friend, Fatima The Fantabulous – a mystic who suggests trying out a séance to find out exactly what happened on the night of the fire… Upon doing so they learn the dramatic truth, but things take a frightening turn for the worse for one team member taking part!

SCRIPT 3:  THE PORTAL

During the séance, one member of the team finds that they have fallen through a portal to a world where she is faced with evil versions of her colleagues. Back in the normal dimension The Press turn up and one member in particular is taking his job extremely seriously!

SCRIPT 4:  THE EGG

One member of the team remains trapped in the other dimension whilst an evil doppelganger has taken over back home. Meanwhile, more than one person is after the library treasure…

SCRIPT 5:  THE EXPERT

Fatima returns to help with the library's "new arrival" – she also quickly notices that something is up with one of their colleagues, little realising that this person is a fake. Meanwhile the imposter has plans concerning how to deal with forthcoming library developments.

SCRIPT 6:  THE SURROGATE

The treasure is saved, but things are about to get worse when a corpse is found. The Police show up just as Horner receives a rather disturbing phone call and Mavis receives a rather odd communication and receives a rather surprising request!

SCRIPT 7:  THE INVESTIGATION

A new librarian has been selected – but Horner, Fatima and Mavis have enough trouble in the library – what with dead bodies and policemen showing up; although the corpse seems to have vanished! Although he’s been asked to leave, Horner sticks around, whilst elsewhere Felix offers Edie the chance for escape and a way home. The clock ticks and another murder may be about to occur at any time…

SCRIPT 8:  THE HATCHING

Horner needs rescuing and Fatima shares her experiences by text… Time is running out for the two groups of library staff and it appears that the new arrival is finally here! All the terrors come to a head when the killer makes a move – but none of those who have been betrayed are going to make that easy for the guilty party…

Next week, we'll be celebrating the release of the first season by sharing some choice extracts from the first season!!

More soon - yeti hugs,

Paul xx

OUR FIRST POST OF 2016!!!

STARTING THE YEAR OFF WITH SOME HOT STUFF!!

Hello beasties!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I'm not sure what Deeley will make of being called 'hot stuff', perhaps he'll approve.... I'm sorry... Really? That's not what was meant!? Ah...

Okay, well I'm starting the new year at a run... Before we move on to the main topic of conversation I have some good news... Getting my A YETI WAY OF THINKING project completed this year was probably going to be one of my New Year resolutions - only I pretty much achieved it by New Year's Day. I spent a good deal of New Year's Eve and New Year's Day getting this book of poetry and prose into shape; long time readers will know that it's been in an editing rut since 2014, although I started it in 2012. Previously books of my poetry and prose have been completed a lot quicker - but I've been focusing a lot more on my scripted novels recently and it's fallen behind, along with my Mouse Of Commons projects.

Anyway, I'm about to send off a copy to see how it looks and then I'll decide when exactly I'll release it. I really hadn't expected to get over the mini-mountain of formatting that I'd found myself in, quite so quickly and now, if I'm not careful, I'm in "danger" of releasing too many projects too quickly. As this collection has taken me so long I want to make a bit of a fuss of releasing it - especially as it might be my last new book of poetry and prose for a while. At the moment the only new poetry and prose that I am writing is appearing here on the blog - so it could well take two to three year's to have enough material to publish any follow-up to A YETI WAY OF THINKING. I'm currently considering building up to it's release in early summer - around the time I return to The Poetry Café, if I can get a date in May or June, say. I'm keen to see what the finished project looks like - it should be pretty nice, but I'm sure there will still be a few things to tinker with. Anyway, I'll keep you updated and have already written a future blog post about the release of this new collection for when I have a release date to announce, only I couldn't wait to share the news that I am now finally moving on with this book!

So... Moving on now to my scripted projects our first post of 2016 is mainly going to be all about my new series - HOT STUFF!! Let me tell you all about it!

The general setting is a library in a town called Spectrum where Horner, from the BEAST OF FRIENDS series comes to work when one of his friends dies mysteriously in a fire... The reason the series is called what it is, is revealed soon after. The main characters are those who work in the library or who live in Spectrum and I'll be introducing them in just a minute. We'll be looking more into the individual episodes next week. The eight scripts make up one story, rather like the 3rd series of BEAST, last year.

So, as promised - here is some information about the characters of our new series - some may be familiar to you and some may not...

Andrew Horner

Horner has transferred from being one of the main characters in THE BEAST OF FRIENDS to standing in as temporary librarian at Spectrum Central Library. He has no real experience of libraries except for as a user of them… He arrives at the library soon after his friend, Fiona, dies in a mysterious fire in the building that only really damaged her office, but it  killed her; whether by accident or by murderous intent Horner means to find out. Horner knows a lot more about Fiona than many of her closest friends; very soon some of these secrets emerge and he is able to put the pieces of the puzzle back together.

Mavis and Edie

Mavis and Edie work on the enquiry desk at the library; they are long-term friends of both Fatima and Fiona – craftier and wiser than they appear! They appear to be in their mid-70s, but actually are probably a great deal older; how old exactly it's hard to say, it's just not polite to ask a lady her age...

Jackson Cinq

A somewhat pretentious work placement student who helps out around the library and thinks he knows everything - although he seems to get on with most of the staff, at least on a surface level…

Arthur De Vandeville

Arthur has worked on the library enquiry desk for years - we don't know much about him at first, although he's a bit grumpy and pretty eccentric… He is a widower and Mavis and Edie tend to mother him, although he quite likes it.

Debbi Wow

Debbi is a clumsy cleaning girl – well-meaning but, at times, hard work! She doesn't get Horner's old-fashioned sense of humour and often makes mistakes.

Felix

Felix is the library handyman – he is single and rather an enigma. Some of his colleagues seem to think that he isn't living life as fully as he possibly could do.

Fatima The Fantabulous

Fatima is a clairvoyant and an old friend of Horner, Mavis, Edie and Fiona… She comes to help, by Horner's request, once he realises that Fiona may have been murdered and that there could be more deaths yet to come...

Butch MacKensie and his boss, Geoff

Butch is a lazy journalist who is forced into investigating the fire in the library by his boss, Geoff. He is also tipped off that there might be something of value in the wreckage, although he may not be the only one interested in whatever it is.

Inspector Gordon Thorn

A local Police Inspector who has been involved in early investigations into the fire at the library. Arthur accidentally calls him back in when he calls him by mistake whilst trying to order a pizza.

Next week, we'll be looking more closely at the scripts that make up the first season - without giving too much away, of course!

More soon - yeti hugs,

Paul xx

GOODBYE 2015!! HELLO 2016!!

WHAT OCCURRED IN SHY YETI LAND IN 2015 AND WHAT'S IN STORE IN 2016...

Hello beasties!

Welcome back for our final post of 2015. I do hope you all had a splendid Christmas and are now gearing up to celebrating the arrival of 2016 - whether this be by having a party or simply by going to bed early. I'll probably be writing and watching some old telly - I'm currently contemplating having an evening of Prisoner: Cell Block H; watching the last few episodes with a well-loaded gin and tonic! Last time I watched those final episodes I got terribly tipsy on some boozy coffee one Saturday afternoon in about 2003. Ah well, we shall see...

Anyway, I guess this should be considered my review of the year... Clearly not THE year - just MY year, which is enough for most people...

Oh, go on... Indulge me... I've put together a guide of all things Shy Yeti in 2015 - collecting all my posts for the year in one place to re-share the links with you... Look how much effort I've put in; it's all shiny and new!? What!? You'll take a look... Oh, thank you... So where shall we begin - oh, I know - what books did I publish this year; that seems the obvious place to begin...

SHY YETI'S PUBLISHED BOOKS OF 2015...

Here they are - all in a lovely list for you...

THE BEAST OF FRIENDS - SEASON 3

My first release of the year - the third season of THE BEAST OF FRIENDS quartet. This is a good one too; seeing a slight shift from humour to a darker set of scripts that tell one sinister story... This season focuses on the arrival of a new flat-mate who causes all manner of horrible events.

POETIQUETTE

It came out a little later than I had intended - but I am very glad to have finally got it out there. This was the 10th anniversary edition of my 8th collection from 2005 and the last of my main batch of early reissues.

Link: www.thedaffypoet.blogspot.co.uk/2015_08_23_archive.html

I also did a show in celebration of this collection, some months after it's 10th anniversary in late October 2015. It was the only show that I did in 2015 due to being unwell - so it meant a lot that it was such a fun evening. You can read about my return to The Poetry Café alongside John Smallshaw at: http://thedaffypoet.blogspot.co.uk/2015_11_01_archive.html

THE BEAST OF FRIENDS - SEASON 4

This was the fourth and final season of BEAST and was published in mid-October, along with a compiled volume of seasons 1 to 4, which I was very keen to produce. This final season contain four longer scripts which rounds up the series... or does it!? Read on to learn the answer...

Link: www.thedaffypoet.blogspot.co.uk/2015_10_18_archive.html

During 2015 I also posted a lot of new material on my blog. Once I have enough pieces I'll probably put them all into a collection, but for now you can read them at the following links... A lot of them were inspired by day trips that I had or by photographs that I took and I was pleased to be able to share so many of my works in progress; especially during a year when I wasn't so well. I'm happy that I didn't let my writing suffer and kept busy with it - as it's a very important part of my day to day life...

It wasn't just stories and photos that I posted on the blog during 2015, but an interview or two, a review of my Poetry Café show, a biography from the Beargrrrian Gazette and a Yeti Agony Aunt column, of sorts...

What follows is a list of the projects that I worked on during 2015 which will hopefully be out soon... I'm at different stages with each of these - some may not even be completely finished until 2017, let alone next year... That said, the first of them will be published in January - but I have been busy on it since 2014; it takes time to get these script-books polished, you know.

SHY YETI'S WORKS IN PROGRESS OF 2015...

HOT STUFF!! - SEASON 1

This will be the first project to be released in 2016. It was ready by early December 2015, but I didn't really want it coming out around Christmas - it's nice to release a new project at a start of a new year, even though I've been working on this one since 2014. There will be more posts about this project over the next few weeks and I posted a prologue to the first season a couple of weeks back as one of this year's Christmas stories:

KENSINGTON GORE - SEASON 1

I'm not too far from completing this one - the second of the two spin-off series from THE BEAST OF FRIENDS, I have about 40 pages left to proof. It's set in an area of London near The Royal Albert Hall and features Katrina, Warren and Lucy from BEAST becoming involved in a number of sinister supernatural shenanigans related to a block of expensive apartments that they are managing. There will be more about this once I'm closer to publishing it, but I'm hoping that this will be by April at the latest.

A YETI WAY OF THINKING

I've been working on this collection of my short stories and poems since 2012, but it's been on the back-burner whilst I worked on the 10th anniversary re-releases of my earlier poetry collections. Now those are all re-published I am aiming to get this collection completed by the summer - hopefully around the time that I make my return to The Poetry Café.

BEAST OF FRIENDS - THE MOVIE

I began work on this in autumn 2014 - but didn't want to release it until a year or so after the 4th season of BEAST was published; it's a slightly longer script-book than the previous seasons - but I would like to release it towards the end of 2016, but we shall see. It's a "missing" story in the canon of BEAST scripts - set in Venice one New Years Eve where a killer is murdering wealthy business-yeti who are attending an exhibition of pies.

I am currently working on proofing the 2nd and 3rd seasons of HOT STUFF!! - whilst writing the 4th season, meanwhile I am proofing season 2 and writing season 3 of KENSINGTON GORE... Whether the second seasons of both get released during 2016 depends on how long it takes to get them ready, but it would be nice to release them if I can.

2016 sees the 10th anniversary of my POEMS TO MAKE BEARS GROWL poetry collection, but I'm not sure whether it needs updating as it was the first of my books to be especially designed for Lulu.com. It might be nice to do something to mark the anniversary, but I may do that by doing a special show at The Poetry Cafe; I haven't thought that far ahead yet.

I've also been working for some time on two Mouse Of Commons projects - but they probably won't see the light of day in 2016. The first of these, THREE TALES ARE BETTER THAN ONE is a collection of short stories and might be out by late 2016 - failing that it'll be 2017. The second project is a novel that follows on from the last Mouse novel - but I doubt that will be ready for another 18 months or so as it is low on my list of priorities.

Next time I'll be celebrating the new year by telling you something about the characters and stories involved in the first season of HOT STUFF!!, which is due out in the middle of January.

More soon...

Yeti hugs,

Paul xx
