Next up - an exclusive interview with Mr Yeti which was recently published in the BEARGRRRIAN GAZETTE over in Beargrrria; but we've been allowed to share it with you here! Thank you! Enjoy!
SHY YETI'S 16TH OVER 60 SECOND
CHAT!
Here is a recent interview from Beargrrria’s top magazine for chat; THE GROWL GAZETTE. They know me there partly due to my dubious connection with Beargrrrian superstar, Charlie Grrr. This is the 16th time that they have interviewed me in recent years – they like to check up on me every six months or so. As usual I mainly discuss what I’m up to creatively – so here’s what they asked and what I said in reply; straight from the yeti’s mouth, as it were!!!

Q. Welcome Mr Yeti!
Hello… It’s very nice to be here again – I have so much to tell you!
Q. Have you released any new books since we last spoke to you in the autumn?
A. At time of speaking I have just released my first book of 2019 – PIECES OF SHY YETI – a collection of “pieces” (both poetry and prose) written for my blog between 2015 and 2017; including over 50 “pieces” prose that have not previously appeared in book form – it’s good to finally be able to release it and is the first book of this kind that I have released since 2016’s A YETI WAY OF THINKING. I’m not sure when my next one will be as I’m not really writing much short prose or poetry as I am currently focusing on the podcast, on Sutton Park preservation projects and on scripts.
Q. Which title will be your next release?
A. My next book of 2019 will be the third season of my script series KENSINGTON GORE – which is currently going through final formatting and slight re-writes. Once again I expect the third season to be available on Lulu – with a compilation of seasons 1-3 released on both Lulu AND Amazon. There are plenty of other releases hot on the heels of this particular book – but I’ll mention those in a little more detail in a moment as I have just spotted your next question!
Q. What projects are you currently working on?
A. Well, I’ve been busying myself finishing various projects and working on scripts for the podcast – so I’m hopefully back on track to complete some of the projects that exist in first draft form. These are mainly related to KENSINGTON GORE, HOT STUFF!! or THE BEAST OF FRIENDS and the ones that exist in complete first draft form are almost ready to be released except they need spell-checking and the odd line tweak; but there are others in these series which are only half-written and I need to get back to those too.
Other books that I am working on at the moment next in priority after the KENSINGTON GORE Season 3 are as follows:
THE BEAST OF FRIENDS – THE LOST SEASON
This season fits in somewhere towards the end of the first season of THE BEAST OF FRIENDS and even includes a new regular character or two. This project is about half-way written in first draft.
KENSINGTON GORE – SEASON 4
The fourth season is in the final stages of its first draft – but will enter the formatting and rewriting stage during 2019. It will be the last KENSINGTON GORE script-book for a while after a successful run and some super support from readers.
HOT STUFF!! SEASON 4, 5 AND 6
Season 4 has been ready for proofing and rewrites for a year or more now – season 5 I completed the first draft of during 2018 and season 6 I am poised to begin whenever I get a spare five minutes any time soon; but clearly it’s not going to be released any time soon – as I have two other seasons to finish first! I do have ideas, however – and at the moment I’m thinking of the 6th season as (most probably) being the last.
There are also Mouse Of Commons stories – further Shy Yeti scripts for the blog and probably my number one project of the moment, THE SHY LIFE PODCAST which I tend to produce around 6 episodes of a month; although it is mostly either ad-libbed or just conversations I also write scripts for some of my special guests …
Q. What is the future for both KENSINGTON GORE and HOT STUFF!!?
A. Well, as I mentioned before I am currently resting KENSINGTON GORE – although there is still the 3rd season to be released and a 4th season due out in 2020 or 2021 which is already written, but which still needs proofreading. So – even though I’m not writing new episodes – I will be thinking about the series on a daily basis for another couple of years.
HOT STUFF!! is still ongoing… Season 4 will be out later this year or early next year – with season 5 released either in late 2019 or early 2020; meanwhile I am on the verge of starting work on season 6, right about now. It’s too early to say what the future of HOT STUFF!! is beyond season 6 – because doing the podcast leaves me with a lot less time for writing, although having finished so many long-term projects during 2018 and early 2019 I am now back to only having three or four… or five… or six! Oh, and the blog and podcast-related scripts! As a side point I should probably add that although KENSINGTON GORE is currently resting, season 6 of HOT STUFF!! is a sort of series cross-over – with a number of the key GORE cast members featured. I’m sure I’ll talk more about that later!
Q. Would you ever consider writing more BEAST OF FRIENDS episodes?
A. Yes! I am actually working on another “lost” series of adventures – which takes place towards the end of the first season during a period when Cromitty and Clive are away from the house. I’m writing it in slow time and it may not be ready for a while yet – although I have written first drafts of the first 3 episodes and have just begun work on the 4th episode of eight projected scripts. Each episode stands alone, although there is a season arc related to a new character who comes to live at the house during these new adventures. Once season 4 of KENSINGTON GORE is done it will probably move up to fill the space of that series.
Q. Are you working on another collection of poetry?
A. In very slow-time, yes – I’ll be going about it in the same way as my new collection, PIECES OF SHY YETI (formally known as GETTING BLOGGY WITH SHY YETI) in that it will contain poems and short prose that have already been posted on the blog in early draft form. At the moment there aren’t many short pieces in the pipeline – although I have begun toying with one or two poems that are already partially written – in the hope that I can finish them, sometime soon.
Q. Are you planning any live poetry shows for 2019?
A. As far as The Poetry CafĂ© and live venues are concerned it’s not something that I’m really planning on; but never say never! Doing something like that takes a lot of organisation for one person and I don’t really have the energy for it at the moment; I’d prefer to preserve it for the podcast which has a definite and potentially longer-lasting audience. As far as alternatives are concerned; live radio and live editions of the podcast are always fun to do, should the opportunity arise…
Q. Will there be further Shy Yeti scripts?
A. Yes, indeed – although I’m not entirely sure when I’ll get the chance to start the next one; although I have got plans for the first couple! I did a new one at Christmas, of course – although I’m not sure if that counts as I do one of those every year! It might be that I eventually do a collection of those scripts plus the ones that I’ve written for the podcast – but we’ll see…
Q. What are your thoughts on the podcast? Do you intend to keep going with it?
A. Most definitely, yes… I have plots that I am aiming for as far ahead as episode 300 (which would be towards the end of 2019) – but, to be honest, I will more than likely I’ll be continuing on beyond that. It’s become a way of life! (You think I’m joking; I’m really not! It’s what I spend most of my evenings doing – and most of my lunch breaks; but I’m not complaining about that at all!)
Q. Which episodes that you’ve released recently were you most pleased with?
A. I love all my episodes – but (shhh… don’t tell them!) I will admit to liking some more than others; especially if there is some element of creativity or dramatics. For instance, I enjoyed working on my episode behind the scenes of the Boxing Day episode of Big Fatty Online. The recent April Fool’s Day episode was also great fun to do – and, well – there are quite a lot of the silly ones coming up
Q. Do you still find the live podcasts a challenge?
A. Yes! I have to set a new challenge for every month – the main reason I do these live show is to challenge myself or to hopefully turn the show into an hour of improvisation where you never quite know what is going to happen. If I have a guest things are usually a little mellower – but sometimes things can go wrong…
For instance, during the LIVE April edition – I had plans for one type of show and then because the pride48 stream went down I suddenly had a chance to do a completely different kind of show and thankfully got support from Trowby, Lisa and Toppie who had been in the chat-room and who hopped onto Skype to record with me instead. It’s hard to think of these times as things going wrong when they turn into something different and were good fun to be involved with. The only shame being that I had intended it to be the launch of my new book – although I did launch it in the presence of my guests, I suppose.
The episodes that I pre-record and construct in the studio are still my first love – but I do very much enjoy trying to do something different when I’m live – some twist or shocking revelation is fun to ad-lib around. Sometimes it something suggested by the chat-room itself – like the chat-room itself being messy; which turned into a long-running sub-plot in its own right!
Q. Do you have any special guests lined up for future episodes?
A. Absolutely. There was a backlog at the start of 2019 as I recorded a lot in November during a week off but then Christmas interrupted – so a lot of those November episodes weren’t released until January and February 2019. So I’m currently considering who I’d like to chat with next, although we’ve recently been recording with a number of returning favourites as a lot of my special guests have now become semi-regular returning guests! I’ve just released scripted episodes with DeadieGrams and TLBTim and ThatPeterG and hope to spend a week in August recording a load more interviews with podcasters in the States. I could probably do some of those sooner, but we shall see!
Q. What do you have in store for the rest of 2019?
A. There are lots of trips and holidays coming up – although there are no more overseas vacations; we did Venice in March – but the rest of our adventures will be UK-based. Around the time that this article goes out I have trips to Penzance and The Isle Of Wight coming up and I’ll definitely be recording on those holidays. I’m in Scotland in July – down in Kent during the summer holidays in August and then for my birthday I’m in Colchester! Yes, Colchester! So there will be plenty of little travelogues – which always work so well in an audio format… Kind of… As long as I post a few nice photos on my blog around the same time. We’ve recently celebrated our 250th episode and our 3rd anniversary and there are also 3 different poetry collections out this year that are celebrating their 10th anniversaries and so will be getting their own special episodes. We also have an exciting episode in store for episode 300 – but that won’t be until near the end of the year…
Q. Are you still making new music for the show?
A. Yes, whenever I can… There never seems to be enough hours in the day; it’s a matter of realising that – actually there is – but it’s making the best use of the down-time. I do work quite well in small bursts – so even though I have sixteen hundred other projects on the go there is still time in the week to work on some loops; after all I really do enjoy it a lot. Sometimes the issue is that I don’t have enough space on my phone - so I definitely do need to get one with a bigger memory next time around! That said, I did come up with a tune the other week which may or may not be the next theme tune of the series once we reach episode 300… Hopefully there will be a bit more time when I’m on holiday too – it’s nice to be able to relax in the sun, but you can also play around on Garageband at the same time; all I need is my phone!
Q. Are you still making cameos on other podcasts?
A. Occasionally yes – but of late these have mainly been via messages that I’ve sent into shows which I have later played back on my own podcast; short things for Tastes Like Burning, That’s A Shame and especially Big Fatty Online. Of course, I will always have connections with The Smellcast and LOTSL as their cast members (especially Toppie, Jay and Peter) have made a lot of appearances – although I’ve not been a guest on LOTSL since early last year! My good friend Ikk The Alien is waiting for the call and will let me know when it comes!
Q. Have you been back on hospital radio since we last chatted?
A. Yes, I was on Radio Wey in February – having previously recorded there just before Christmas; however there are plans to do something more in June – I’m not even sure which radio station we’re going on! Readers might remember that we thought we had made our last appearance on Radio Wey back in July 2018; so it’s been nice to get on there again and to get Yeti Uncle John back out there too…
Q. Is there any news on new Mouse Of Commons projects?
A. Not since our 2018 Christmas episode on the blog – but I expect that I will write another in 2019 and eventually I’ll have a book of Mousey short Christmas scripts which I can put out there into the world! I would like to get back into other Mouse projects – and I’m sure it will happen eventually.
Q. Would we be right in saying that your blog is still going strong?
A. Yes – I’m always working on one post or other – although we probably only post about once a fortnight at the moment; we have recently passed our 500th post…
Q. Exciting news! Thank you for talking to us, Mr Yeti. See you again later in the year!
A. I’m looking forward to it! Goodbye for now!
Next up - here are some photos from my recent trip to Penzance... There will be even more when the actual episode that I recorded during the trip is released!
The trip in itself was great - the place where we were staying The Egyptian House in Penzance (floor two!) was a great place to stay and we had great day trips to St. Michael's Mount and St Ives and I also took a mini-trip to Mousehole. Toby did most of the cooking - but we did manage to have fish and chips twice, a cream tea and a Cornish Pasty. Oh, and on the way down we had a night in Exeter just to break up the journey!
I recorded an episode of the podcast, of course - but you'll have to wait a month or two before that episode is released; along with those other photos that I mentioned earlier.
That's all for now...
Take care - more soon,
Yeti hugs,
Paul (aka Shy Yeti) xx
