TOPPIE SMELLIE STRIKES BACK - AND OTHER BUSINESS!

TOPPIE SMELLIE RIDES AGAIN!!

Hello beasties!

Just a short post this time - as you had two posts in a row last week and quite a number of new podcast episodes within a few days of each other... I'm mainly here just to trumpet the second of the two Toppie Smellie episodes of THE SHY LIFE PODCAST! which I posted on Thursday evening, 18th August.

THE SHY LIFE PODCAST - 16: TOPPIE SMELLIE RIDES AGAIN!!

Here we are for episode SIXTEEN - and we're back again to talk about Dark Shadows and having a coughing-fit during a live broadcast!! This time we also take a look at a number of odd little recordings that Mr Yeti has sent to Toppie for THE SMELLCAST over the last few months. It's all good fun and what is more Toppie is approached for an acting job on PICKLE HOLLOW! This is, most certainly, not the last time you will hear Toppie on THE SHY LIFE PODCAST - he will be back again for our Halloween episode in October!!  I am aiming to get episode 17 of the show ready by late August/early September! Please email me at shyyeti@yahoo.co.uk if you have any comments. The music is by Shy Yeti and Luca. Sound-effects by Soundbible, especially Sarasprella and Daniel Simon. This episode and all contents are Copyright Paul Chandler, 2016. Episode 16 was recorded on the 23rd July 2016, with links recorded on the 16th August 2016. THE SMELLCAST clips are from episode 415, which can be accessed on iTunes or from Toppie's site: https://smellcast.wordpress.com/2016/07/15/sc-415-theres-a-shy-yeti-on-the-telley-part-two/

This episode can be downloaded on iTunes, Acast, Podbean and also from Soundcloud at the following link:

What else in other news?

Well, yesterday - Saturday 20th August 2016 - I headed into London to read at John Smallshaw's open-mike night at St Barnabas' near Tottenham Court Road. Considering that it looks unlikely that I'll get to do another Poetry Café Show this year due to the refurbishment I intend to go to as many of John's nights as possible...

It all went very well and I recorded all I read for a future podcast - hopefully it came out, I've not had time to check yet. As with one of my recent Kent episodes I had intended to focus on reading from my 2006 collection, POEMS TO MAKE BEARS GROWL... I did do this to a certain extent, but ended up reading more from my latest collection, A YETI WAY OF THINKING. Returning to POEMS TO MAKE BEARS GROWL, I didn't feel that this book needed the same regeneration as my earlier collections had - mainly because it was the first of my books that was designed to be published on Lulu; however it is nice to be able to celebrate its 10th anniversary as I had done my earlier books. Hopefully I'll do something similar on my podcast or for one of my shows in 2017 when it comes to celebrating the 10th anniversary of my next collection RHYMES BEARS STEAL PIES FOR... In fact I might well dedicate my birthday trip to Venice to this particular collection - we shall see...

Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself - so at John's night I was able to read the following pieces which I am hoping I will be able to share with you eventually via the podcast...

READING AT THE HOUSE OF ST BARNABAS - 20/08/2016

PICCADILLY IS RUBBISH CIRCUS*
YOU'LL DO*
ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLES#
DO SHEEP MIGRATE?#

RUNNING ON EMPTY*
ALMOST GONE*
HANGING OUT IN GRAVEYARDS WITH MY SWEETHEART*
CHUBBY CHERUB

I read two sets of four poems. Poems marked with a * are from A YETI WAY OF THINKING. Poems marked with a # are from POEMS TO MAKE BEARS GROWL. CHUBBY CHERUB is a completely new piece - available at the bottom of this post.

Thanks again to John Smallshaw for inviting me to come and read at this show... It was also especially nice to meet poet, Thomas McColl whose latest book, BEING WITH ME WILL HELP YOU LEARN is definitely worth checking out. As I'm off to Luxembourg later today it would have been very easy to have decided that I was too busy to go - so I'm very glad that I packed in good time and came to have a read and to hear all the other poets... John is hoping to do another show in September.

Before we go I'd like to share with you a new poem - although it's not actually THAT new - well, bits of it are, I suppose... It's actually one of the unfinished pieces that I discussed during episode 14 of the podcast, which I began writing in 2014... It's called CHUBBY CHERUB and it's one of my dafter poems; just what we need in this rather melancholy year, maybe.

Next time, I hope to be sharing with you some of my recent adventures in Luxembourg. Either that or we may be dropping in on Radio Wey for my next podcast episode - which ever post is ready to go first, really!

More soon!

Yeti hugs,

Paul xx

CHUBBY CHERUB…

He’s a chubby cherub…
And he’s rather quaint…
But he kissed me quick last Sunday…
So he ain’t no saint!
He’s been sending me rude emails –
When he thinks no-one can see…
But I’ve been retweeting them to mother…
With a certain psychopathic glee!
He’s completely unaware –
He thinks that no-one even guesses…
But we all know he turns invisible –
Just to look up lady's dresses!

He is just so very wicked…
His manners cannot be digested…
And if he keeps on doing that –
Then he is going to get arrested!

He’s a chubby cherub…
But he’s rather bad…
He’s been mud-wrestling with llama…
Unashamed and lycra-clad.
He’s been surfing quite symmetric –
On the internet, it seems…
But he is spreading tittle-tattle –
And sharing pornographic dreams…
Although his halo stays in place –
In all his horrid schemes does revel…
He’s neither innocent nor kind –
When he plays Kiss Chase with the devil!

He is just so very evil…
He will rarely show his feelings…
He’ll give you looks that make you blush…
Al-ways knee-deep in double-dealings…

He’s a chubby cherub…
And he's oh-so cute…
A sweet-natured little soul -
Who has been learning how to shoot…
He will take his tiny bow –
He’ll act responsible, not stupid…
He will not use a poisoned arrow –
He fights for love this budding cupid…
And yet he'll feast on human woes –
Until you wish he'd never started…
Then will recycle all your fears –
Until you're drained and broken-hearted…

He is just so very deadly…
A fang-ed servant of the night…
A vampire eyeing up your neck…
An angel... poised for one last bite!
