THE UNLIKELY RETURN OF SHY YETI... IS FINALLY HERE!
Finally it's here! Around the same time that I released my album THE STRANGE WORLD OF SHY YETI in July 2024, I was also working on a second album... but problems with the Udio site at the time delayed completion and I was also left with many variations on each tune that I'd not had time to listen through to. To be honest there are still versions of some of the tracks that I'm yet to hear - but I feel like the versions I have included on THE UNLIKELY RETURN are songs that are worthy of sharing with you...
In the end I included versions of the 11 songs that I'd completed back in 2024 and then the other 9 songs are longer versions or versions of the songs with completely different tunes... I genuinely liked all these alternate versions and couldn't not include them here!
It should be added that listeners of THE SHY LIFE PODCAST may recognise a few of the tunes because I included them on the show during 2024 when I was still intending to release the second album that year... One or two versions of the tunes (that weren't the selected album mixes of the songs) have also appeared on some recent 2026 episodes; particularly between episodes #807 and #809 - our 2026 valentine's episode and the following two episodes, one of which was about my 2005 poetry collection, POETIQUETTE.

THE BLACK EYED GROWL (RADIO EDIT)
This was originally a poem that first appeared in 2007's RHYMES BEARS STEAL PIES FOR... It's also one that I used to perform pretty often at my Poetry Cafe shows in the late 00s and until the mid-2010s.
CAT THIEF (RADIO EDIT)
This song was originally a poem from 2009's IF POEMS WERE PIES. It is mostly as it appeared in the collection and the Ai struggled with one or two words, but as with all of these songs that mostly just washes along with the tune. At time of putting together the album it wasn't easy correct these tiny mistakes without losing the tune... and the tune is king, really. When performing this one in the past I always thought that it almost sounded like a rap... The voice on the song version reminded me a bit too much of the voice of Neil Tennant from Pet Shop Boys and so this is why I upped the pitch... after all it is meant to be a cat singing!
DISCO YETI (RADIO EDIT)
Another song that originally appeared in a slightly longer form in 2007's RHYMES BEARS STEAL PIES FOR. The three verses used for the song were a sort of compilation of the 4 verses whilst the actual chorus is the original 8 lines of verse 1. Sadly I did end up losing four of my favourite lines... "Disco creature, So suave - so wily... He's one half yeti and two thirds Kylie!" I'm not sure why I sacrificed that one... it may be that the Ai couldn't cope with the right pronunciation of Kylie... I forget now!
EVERYTHING YOU DO IS WRONG (RADIO EDIT)
Another song that originally appeared in an alternate form in 2009's IF POEMS WERE PIES. It's another song that is mainly a mixture of lines from the first three verses of the poem, with maybe a little tweaking along the way.
I CANNOT LOVE YOU (RADIO EDIT)
Another song that originally appeared in an alternate form in 2009's IF POEMS WERE PIES. It's another song that is mainly a mixture of lines from the six verses of the poem; but then the Ai did a little mixing around too and decided to do whatever it wanted with what I had given it... I gave in and let it!
I WILL EAT PIES (RADIO EDIT)
This piece was originally a poem from 2006's POEMS TO MAKE BEARS GROWL and used the same rhyming structure as the lyrics for the song "I Will Survive..."
NOBODY LIKES YOU BUT ME... (RADIO EDIT)
Another song that originally appeared in a different form in 2007's RHYMES BEARS STEAL PIES FOR. There are definitely large chunks of the poem included, but some lines are trimmed or appear in an alternate form.
THE RAISIN INVASION (MALE EDIT)
This was a new piece written during July 2024 - as yet it has never been published as a poem as it was specifically written as lyrics for a song.
WASP IN A WIG (RADIO EDIT)
Another song that originally appeared in an alternate form in 2009's IF POEMS WERE PIES. It's another song that is mainly a mixture of lines from the four verses of the poem, with maybe a little tweaking along the way. I was very pleased with the vocals on this one - it sounds like it must have emerged from some bizarre insect-themed musical. One mistake is that the Ai misunderstood the slightly made-up word STINGY (sting to rhyme with ping) as stingy (rhymes with hinge). I mean, it still works in the incorrect version and it wasn't possible to change the word without losing the tune. As with many of these songs there are many alternate mixes of the song and one of the things I love about this version is that the backing track has buzzy wasp style harmonies which I was quite amazed the Ai had incorporated!

These lyrics were originally put together by Mr Yeti especially for this album in July 2024.

Another song that originally appeared in an alternate form in 2009's IF POEMS WERE PIES. This song is pretty much the song as it appears as a three verse poem in this collection, with maybe just a little tweaking along the way.
