THE BEARGRRRIAN GAZETTE IS BACK!!

WHAT SHY YETI HAS BEEN UP TO!

Hello beasties!

This time - after a slight (unexpected) delay - The Beargrrrian Gazette is back to ask more questions...

First up though, we have some new podcast shows to champion! As I mentioned last time, we're quickly jumping back to episodes 291 and 292 which were before our Halloween episode (as already discussed!) Don't worry - it's not terribly confusing; I can understand it and I'm a yeti - nuff said! Anyway... Now read on... Please!!

THE SHY LIFE PODCAST - 291:

LIVE PRIDE48 SHOW - OCTOBER 2019!

In a slight change to the scheduled edition - here we are for episode 291! Paul and the regulars are back in the studio for their ever-unpredictable live show for October 2019 and for once things seem to be quite normal! Something must be wrong... We also have extra material and some messages from Harry from a recent trip to Europe - Cromitty has plans to build a complete Munich Oktoberfest soundscape for the show; but his plans may be a tad ambitious! Our next episode, #292 sees us encountering a horrible beast amongst the library shelves! Try to be brave! Do join us, won't you?! Thank you to Harry F for his travel recordings and also to Toppie Smellie for chatting with me behind the scenes. Please email me at shyyeti@yahoo.co.uk if you have any comments - you can even send me a sound-file and I'll include it on the show. The music is by Shy Yeti and Luca. Sound effects by Soundbible. All content of this episode is Copyright Paul Chandler, 2019. Episode 291 was recorded LIVE on Sunday 20th October 2019, with extra material recorded during August and September 2019 and the Oktoberfest links recorded on Saturday 19th October 2019.

THE SHY LIFE PODCAST - 292:

SHY YETI AND THE BITE OF THE SHELVING IMP!

Here we are for episode 292! In which Mr Yeti encounters a shelving imp in his library and it doesn't end well! Can the regulars help or might our host find himself evolving into a shelving imp himself! All this and we have yeti-poetics and a Sutton Park clip! Our next episode, #293 sees us presenting our Halloween episode for 2019 - what spookiness will we have in store THIS year!? Do join us, won't you?! Please email me at shyyeti@yahoo.co.uk if you have any comments - you can even send me a sound-file and I'll include it on the show. The music is by Shy Yeti, Harry F and Luca. Next time we'll be looking into more podcast and - excitingly *maybe* what Toby and I got up to on my birthday holiday...

That's all for now...

Take care - more soon,

Yeti hugs,

Paul (aka Shy Yeti) xx

"HELLO, SHY YETI!"
THE BEARGRRRIAN GAZETTE IS BACK!!

Here is a recent interview from Beargrrria’s top magazine for chat; THE GROWL GAZETTE. They know me there partly due to my dubious connection with Beargrrrian superstar, Charlie Grrr. This is the 17th time that they have interviewed me in recent years – they like to check up on me every six months or so. As usual I mainly discuss what I’m up to creatively – so here’s what they asked and what I said in reply; straight from the yeti’s mouth, as it were!!!

Q. Welcome Mr Yeti!

A. Hello… It’s very nice to be here again – and to be able to catch up with you…

Q. Have you released any new books since we last spoke to you in the spring?

A. I’d just released PIECES OF SHY YETI when we last spoke, but since then I’ve released the third season of KENSINGTON GORE (KG) – which was draft written a year or two ago, but has been a while coming in the formatting stage. At one stage I was releasing a season of both KG and HOT STUFF!! (HS) a year – but the last two years I have fallen behind on that – so last year it was the turn of HS – Season 3 and next year it’ll hopefully be HS – Season 4. Actually this works just fine as it’s not a matter of having to actually write the seasons – I’m well in advance as far as first drafts are concerned. I also know now that season 4 of KS is going to be the last for the moment (and I’ve pretty much completed a first draft), whilst HS will probably be running to a sixth season – the fifth season is written in draft, with a sixth season planned; although this will practically be a cross-over season with the cast of KG.

Q. Which title will be your next release?

A. I’m not entirely sure, as yet – I have plenty of books in the pipe-line but not many that are right up there ready to go. At the moment it’ll probably be HOT STUFF!! Season 4, which I am currently doing re-writes and formatting on – but not at any great speed… We’ll see how it goes – ultimately my main priority is the podcast and I’d still like to write a book about the show; it’s just that I keep producing so many episodes that it keeps growing into a bigger and bigger project to work on! Still – as I know from my many years of making SUTTON PARK – I went from making 100s of episodes a year to the show eventually fizzling out – or even with writing so many poems; who knows how many years I’ll want to keep doing the podcast.

Q. What projects are you currently working on?

A. To be honest – my main focus is the podcast – the recording, editing and releasing of the shows. After that my next priority is my blog and then probably HOT STUFF!! Season 4, with a time spent on some of the projects further down the line. It keeps me busy and I pretty much have enough episodes to last until the end of the year.

Q. Have you written any poems lately?

A. In very slow-time, yes – I’ve been going through a number that have been percolating for quite some time; many of them are not yet complete. However, in late September 2019 I finished my first verse in quite some time – it is called BAD TORO and I’d been working on it on and off since 2010! (Yes, really!) I ended up finishing it so that I could set an episode of the podcast around Paul writing a new poem for a charitable event for “podfading” podcasters. It was nice to be able to do something immediate and creative with the newly finished verse – even if its actual creation hadn’t been immediate! Since completing BAD TORO I have also completed another poem – a couple of years in the writing, called I WAS A TEENAGE WERE-BADGER which will be appearing on my blog around Halloween and on the Halloween edition of THE SHY LIFE PODCAST. I have one or two others that are almost done, but not enough (yet!) to consider doing a new collection; not for a while.

Q. Have you performed any poems live recently?

A. Well, only during the recording of the podcast – they were live when I recorded them! This year I have recorded three different episodes specifically focusing on the poetry collections that I released on lulu.com back in 2009: IF POEMS WERE PIES, CAVEMAN LOGIC and THE SHY LIFE (although I’ve only released two of these so far!) Most episodes of the podcast have a poem or two! Otherwise I’ve not done any live shows or open-mike nights; again – I’ve done local radio, which is live but only with a somewhat distant audience!

Q. Have you written any more Shy Yeti scripts?

A. Not in the same way as I did with the scripts that appeared in THE SHY YETI SCRIPTBOOK a year or so ago. As far as fully-formed Yeti scripts are concerned I definitely do have some ideas, but I just don’t have the time at the moment – that said, I am aware that I left things at a cliff-hanger at the end of the first script-book, so there will be more one day… I have been writing more scripts – but mostly they are extracts or links for use during episodes of THE SHY LIFE PODCAST. The only other script that I intend to begin work on soon is my annual Christmas script – which once again will focus on the adventures of Gladstone McWhiskers – The Mouse Of Commons And Lords and his colleague Oliver Louse. There’s a good chance that there will also be cameos by Charlie Grrr – Shy Yeti and maybe even podcast legend Bettina Du Pres is this year’s script!

Q. How is the podcast developing? Can we expect it to continue into 2020?

A. Most definitely, yes… As of October 2019 I probably have enough episodes to last me up until New Year (at approximately 8 episodes a month) and I’m recording new episodes every week – so as yet my well of new material is not running dry! That said it is in my nature to always be thinking to the end of something even when I am quite early on in a project; for instance I have recently recorded a potential final episode – although but will probably release that as an April fool’s episode. I do think, however, that it would be nice to have an emergency spare episode in store in case anything bad does happens and I might well record another potential “end” episode soon. It might be that I do this about once a year and then release the previous “last” episode as an ordinary episode of the show; I just want to be prepared! I don’t really want to let the podcast fade should I ever get tired of it – in the way that this did happen with my video series Sutton Park during 2000. Even with Sutton Park I used to come up with ideas for final episodes – but after a while I would usually use them for “big” episodes; 1000, 1500, 2000, whatever… Anyway! So yes – expect to hear many new episodes of THE SHY LIFE PODCAST in 2020!

Q. Which of your “story” episodes released in 2019 are your favourites, to date?

A. Of course, I love all my episodes – although I would be lying if I didn’t admit that some of them are more fun to me because they tell a story or are more personal. One of these would be episode 290 – Dameus Twinklehorn’s stag-do – as I feel it came out well considering that a lot of it was ad-libbed between my friend Toppie Smellie and I without a great deal of planning or direction. Another show which will be out just after this interview would be episode 300 – I’ve recorded a lot for this and even written scripts – it is definitely one of our most important in that we’ve been building up to it over the last 100 episodes (since around Summer 2018). During 2019 I’ve done quite a few story episodes – for example one of them involved Albert The Dragon and was set at a home for retired phoenixes where I needed to find bird sounds to represent the phoenixes. I also got a chance to be similarly inventive with another episode where Paul gets bitten by a shelving imp; the shelving imp sound was actually the sound of a porcupine off the internet! In another show Paul gets a bit too big for his boots ; which was fun to adlib because I don’t usually get to be such a complete idiot in my real life.

Q. Is it true that you often write scripts for your story episodes?

A. Occasionally, yes. The story episodes are never completely scripted – in fact they are mostly ad-libbed but often include some element that is scripted. Earlier in 2019 we released an episode (#266) involving the return of the legendary Deadiegrams and because I needed to send the lines to our guest star a good deal of that show was scripted. Back in June this year I wrote ThatPeterG a quite lengthy script (#257) so that Mister Brocante The Antique Dealer could return and again in episode 300 Jay The Hauntcub received some important lines during the wedding of Bettina and Dameus… There will be more scripts coming in the new year – Gordon The Cryptkeeper will be back for one thing– and there are also other key characters who will be making appearances in scripted form; it’s all go in Shy Life Podcast land!

Q. Do you still enjoy doing the live episodes of the podcasts?

A. Yes! We’ve had fun this year with a couple of sub-plots that make appearances during live episodes. During the first half of the year we were focusing on an experiment which concerned shrinking various co-hosts – whereas later in the year a mystery involving pickled eyeballs and robotic Toppie Smellies took up some of our time! We also had Nick on our Live Streaming Pride48 Show in June, which is always good; it’s nice not to fly solo for those special episodes.

Q. Which of your more factually-based chats were the most memorable for you during 2019, so far?

A. It’s been very nice, this year, to be able to include another member of the Round The Archives team into the Shy Life Podcast universe – with Martin Holmes talking to us about art, books and even the hit songs of James Bond: not to mention drawing me some rather wonderful cover art too! My old friend, Nick Goodman, has also brought his former writing-partner, Jo B in for a couple of episodes and I’ve also been able to revisit a number of former guests such as George In Atlanta and Freakquincy to see how they have been up to. I finally got to chat with Adam from Foul Monkeys in an episode that will be out pretty soon – and there are plans in 2020 for him to return in some scripted episodes.

Q. Which of your travelogue episodes have been the most fun to record in 2019?

A. I got to record in Dunbar again this summer – but partly due to blustery weather it wasn’t the most effective of my trips away as far as recording was concerned; in fact I still have to edit this one. Another one that I’ve held back which I think is probably going to come out better is an episode that I recorded in the Isle Of Wight back in May; partly because there is quite a big story involved! I do tend to keep some of my travel episodes in the pending file so that I have some interesting shows to release in the winter months when I’m not going so far; both Dunbar and IOW will be out early in 2020. Another trip away in the summer was to my old haunt in Kent – this was a very successful week – whilst away this time I recorded a diary episode – the Halloween show – a number of interview episodes and did some singing with Harry! Some of these episodes are already out – but at least one is still to come in early 2020! I have one more holiday coming up any day now – Colchester around the time of my birthday; I’ll definitely do a diary episode, but there may even be time for something more. I’ve left the best trip of 2019 to last – and that would be my one overseas trip of the year to one of my favourite locations! Venice! I managed to get a couple of episodes out of what I recorded. Hopefully I’ll get back to Italy again soon – with the added plus point that Toby really liked the city too!

Q. Do you have any travel episodes that you are looking forward to in 2020?

A. Yes… I have a lot of trips already booked for next year – mostly UK-based for the first half of the year, at least… There are holidays planed in Bath (January), Kent, again! (April), Penzance, again (May), Ironbridge – and SUTTON PARK (June)! I may be going to Plymouth with Nick G to see my brother and Alena in July and there has even been talk of possibly Lille or Florence for my birthday next year! I do like to use my holidays for really useful things, if I can!

Q. Do you have any special guests lined up for future episodes?

A. Absolutely. But I can’t possibly give away all my secrets yet – just get yourself ready for episode 300 – it’s full of special guests! That really is our most exciting show to come – although things always get pretty busy towards the end of the year what with birthday episodes – Christmas specials and December live shows!

Q. Have you made any new music for the show recently?

A. Yes, I’m back into that at the moment – trying to factor it in during the occasional lunch break. Recently I’ve been happy to work on producing incidental music or shorter pieces that work to transition between scenes as I’ve already used up a lot of the best samples on Garageband that work well for more ambitious pieces. It’s nice to have new tunes for the show.

Q. Are you still making cameos on other podcasts?

A. Occasionally yes – when invited – or in the case of Big Fatty Online and Tastes Like Burning they seem happy to play whatever I send them! However, I am a regular columnist on Round The Archives – having done articles lately on Bewitched, Animal Kwackers, Allo Allo and 1979 Dr Who – with more articles planned into 2020! I also make occasional cameos on The Smellcast and it is my very great pleasure that Toppie knows that he can call on me to record for him short notice.

Q. Have you been back on hospital radio since we last chatted?

A. We had planned to record together again in mid-October, but unfortunately the date that we had selected clashed with another event going on at Radio Wey… Thankfully we have been able to reschedule and should be back on the airwaves in late November! It’ll be nice to get back on Radio Wey with Tim and Nathan.

Q. Is there any news on new Mouse Of Commons projects?

A. I’ve just started thinking about my 2019 Christmas script – in fact the plot is pretty much decided; I just have to write it! I can confirm that this year – as well as Gladstone and Ollie – I’ll be continuing my podcast crossover by having Bettina Du Pres appear in the story, along with Shy Yeti and Charlie Grrr. I do love writing these annual Christmas scripts – one day I will have enough for a book in its own right! I do have other full-length Mouse projects still to finish; just not enough time at the moment to complete them!

Q. Would we be right in saying that your blog is still going strong?

A. Oh yes – I don’t write it every week, although I am probably working on elements for posts most days. It reality I post every 2-3 weeks; about twice a month – mostly about podcasts episodes that I’ve released – books I’ve published or photos from trips that I’m just back from. Oh… And Deeley the Cat, of course!

Q. It all sounds great! Thank you for talking to us, Mr Yeti. See you in 2020!

A. I’m looking forward to it! Goodbye for now!
