Hello beasties!
May is a busy month - not only was it the 6th anniversary of The Shy Life Podcast - but it was also the 20th anniversary of this very blog!
The podcast got it's own anniversary episode - as you'll see - but the 20th anniversary blog date kind of passed me by! This blog has been a big part of what I've been up to over those last 20 years - I started it to document my poetry - my first 8 books were hand-made releases photocopied on my dad's photocopier in his office, but then around 2005/2006 I discovered Lulu.com and was able to use it to self-publish (more professionally) my work. Being able to do this also encouraged me to write further Mouse Of Commons novels; the first had been written around 2000 and had remained untyped until this stage... many more Gladstone McWhiskers novels followed! (He's not completely gone, I promise - I also have a number of untyped unreleased stories to get out there one day!) By the end of the 00s I was gigging, mostly at The Poetry Cafe in London - and writing about the shows on the blog... By 2010 I'd begun making my SHY YETI ON LOCATION videos - not to mention the brief-ish return of SUTTON PARK. I released around 100 poetry videos between 2010 and 2013 and only really stopped when the technology became stupidly complicated. Self-publishing also became stupidly complicated by the turn of the decade - so the books have dried up too; for the moment... but we shall overcome the stupid complications! Of course, since 2016 I've been releasing the podcast and that has really become my main creative outlet... long may it continue! Thank you blog for being there!
It's not even the last of the celebrations in 2022, btw - September sees the 30th anniversary of SUTTON PARK; not to forget 20th anniversaries of a number of my earlier collections of verse!
Anyway, moving on...
This time on the blog we'll be looking at the episodes of the podcast released during May 2022...
First up, we're starting with a bumper-length edition recorded with all manner of guest whilst I was staying at my parent's house towards the end of April... Most of the guests weren't actually in the room with me - but it was still a lot of fun!
SHY YETI'S WEEK OF MANY CHATTINGS!
Here we are for episode 531! This time we visit Mr Yeti's parents - but chat to many various friends in person and via in the web along the way! Here we are for episode 534! Paul and Martin reunite to discuss more of the big hits of the 1950s on both sides of the pond - this time focusing on the years 1954 and 1955! Ikk also joins us to perform some of his favourite tunes of the period. What will he have in store? We also have a very noisy special guest this edition - one with four legs and a loud meow! (It's Deeley!) I'm sorry - I refuse to edit him out because, on a good day, he's actually extremely cute and purry! Oh, and Toby starts working in the kitchen about half way through and the boiler starts making a noise! Will nobody give us any peace!?! Still, at least the internet didn't give up this time! SHY YETI'S BRAND NEW PODCASTING STUDIO!
Here we are for episode 535! This time Paul is on the search for a new library podcasting studios where he can record the show! Happily he finds one; except that it is actually a vacant waiting room on a nearby railway station! Is this really going to be good enough!? We also have Sutton Park clips from the Spring of 1998 - how will Little Jay react when he meets Owen, the twin brother of his recently dead best friend, Barlow!?
