We heard the travelogue version of this trip back in episode 242, but this time we hear about Cromitty's experiment - for he has invented a doodah and it can even fly! Paul and Yeti Uncle John are out in Venice with Bettina and Dameus to trial it out, whilst Cromitty is back in London giving instructions to Toppie Smellie and Aunt Tappie over in America! It truly is an international venture! No only that but Mr Trowbridge's scientific advice is called upon! Hopefully Charlie Grrr won't be too cross that all the attention isn't on his gallery exhibition! Thank you to everyone who took part! Our next episode, #288 sees Paul and Martin H from Round The Archives discuss writing - before moving on to music of a James Bond-shaped kind... Just released - but I just wanted to say a couple of things about it! This is an episode that I recorded in April 2018 which somehow escaped being released - it has some similarities with the episode I recorded for our 2019 April Fool's Day episode, although if I remember correctly the idea of there being new regulars on the show came from our 2018 April Fool's Day edition... This episode also sees a surprise appearance by one other character - but I really can't tell you who!

This is an episode that Martin Holmes and I recorded in August - the day before the show that was recently released with Martin, Andrew, Lisa and I discussing art and R.T.A. This episode works as a companion-piece to our chat with Nick and Andy about James Bond in that we take specifically about the music from Bond films. That said, the first half of the show is more about our experiences of writing and podcasting.
Whatever Happened To Dusty The Scone-Eating Dandelion!?
Paul and the team receive a tip-off about an acquaintance of theirs - Dusty The Scone-Eating Dandelion who went missing under mysterious circumstances some time ago... Paul, Yeti Uncle John and Calum head off to The Isle Of Wight in search of their friend; but will they find him!?!
An episode that has been finished for a while - but I know it's going to be an episode that might take a little while to edit and so I need to choose my moment... In essense it is a slightly more complicated holiday diary episode - in that there is also a plot-line to be taken into consideration! It was recorded back in late May and early June 2019 and I'm looking forward to finally putting it together.
What Else Went On In Venice...
We finally learn what else occurred during Paul's trip to Venice back in March...
Just released! This is an episode that was recorded alongside a diary episode that I recorded in Venice back in March - although most of the dialogue was recorded back in London on my return... Originally I was planning on releasing this a lot closer to the time of the actual Venice diary episode - but it's nice in a way to be able to spread out my only overseas trip of 2019 over a longer period. When I began work on editing it in late September / early October 2019 I realised that I still needed to record quite a bit more dialogue - but was able to record as required as I edited. I also recorded a chatty scene at the end of the episode looking back. There wasn't that much material actually recorded in Venice for this episode (only one or two scenes), but a lot of the background sound recorded during my March 2019 visit was able to be re-used to set the scene. The material with Toppie and Tappie was recorded soon after my return from that trip and the episode came together rather like a jigsaw puzzle.
Do Not Meet The Gaze Of The Great Shy Yeti!

This is an episode which was inspired by reading a story (maybe true, maybe not!) about an actor who had written into his contract that lower members of the film crew should never make eye contact with him... Whether true or not it made me so mad to think about it that I had to record an episode related to the Control Incorporated plot-line about what might happen if Paul treated the regulars in the same way. It was great fun to record this one and to get to act like a diva for an hour or so...
When Nick Brought 1983 To Visit!
Paul and Deeley have a guest to their little house - and some 1980s musical discussions occur too!
Also recently released; sooner than expected! This is a funny little episode - partly about Nick coming to visit my flat for the first time in many years and partly a short chat about the big hits of 1983; finishing a topic that we began back in 2017. We were hoping that Deeley would come and say hello - but in fact he wasn't especially sociable; although there was a re-match in late September 2019 which went a lot better I am pleased to announce - and we recorded that visit too!
Hen Nights And Stag-Dos - The Bettina And Dameus Way!
It is the night of Bettina's Hen Night and Dameus's Stag-Do and the two evening really couldn't be more different!!
Toppie and I had great fun ad-libbing this one - as a run-up to the wedding of the year coming up in episode 300... The two "parties" couldn't be more different - Dameus is out with the lads (and Toppie continues to get drunk even when drinking sparkling water!), whilst Bettina and Aunt Tappie spend a quieter evening reflecting on both past and future. I pretty much decided at time of recording that this episode would be number 290 - 10 episodes before the big day!
The Shy Life Halloween Episode - 2019
The Shy Life team do their best to pull together a Halloween episode for 2019.
As usual I recorded our Halloween episode months in advance, whilst down in Kent during August, although I did add a scene or two after that. It's a bit of a "magazine" episode full of sketches, spooky poems and special guests and as usual it pokes fun at this particular "holiday". A late edition to the recording is a poem called I WAS A TEENAGE WERE-BADGER which took me a couple of years to complete, but which I finished at the very start of October and so wanted to include.

Paul is away for his birthday - and this is the diary that he recorded during his week off!
One of two birthday episodes - the other being a flight of fantasy about a genie in a bottle which I will say more about once it is recorded and ready to be editing! This particular show will be a diary of my birthday trip; up in London and then later in Colchester. Who knows what may happen!?

This is an episode that was recorded on location back in late-July 2019 - although much of the dialogue was recorded on my return back in London... Recording in Dunbar tends to be minimal - partly because it's usually quite breezy up that way as it's by the sea and also because we tend to go back to the same locations - so there aren't quite so many new places to talk about and so I usually bring in a story-line.

In which Mr Yeti encounters a shelving imp in his library and it doesn't end well!
This episode was recording in mid-September and is a story about what happened when Mr Yeti gets bitten by a shelving imp whilst working in his library. It was recorded over 3 lunchtimes between the 17th and 19th of September down in the Library Podcasting Studios and also features plenty of appearances by the regulars and even Bettina and Dameus. It has been scheduled just before episode 300 - which is rapidly approaching. Watch this space - it's coming soon!
Getting Ready For The Big Day...
Paul catches up with the regulars as the date of the big wedding draws closer - all seems quite normal until Ikk uncovers a sinister hidden message...
I recorded this one in mid-September - knowing at the time that it would end up being scheduled as episode 299. I had a plotline set aside concerning Aunt Tappie's podcast that I was yet to use and suddenly realised that it might work well as a prelude to episode 300. It was one that I was able to record in two lunchtime recording sessions on the 11th and 12th September and which I will set aside until episode 300 is ready to be released, hopefully around late November or early December.

Paul heads out and about to celebrate the third of three 10 year poetry anniversaries during 2019.
This is probably our biggest episode of 2019 - episode 300 - the wedding of the year! I'm presuming that this means it'll be out by mid to late November. As long as it occurs somewhere after my birthday and before our Christmas episodes; perhaps it'll end up being our Thanksgiving Special! I've been recording some guest cameos for this edition - but I'll be doing the main bulk of the recording with friend of the show, Toppie Smellie of The Smellcast.
After The Wedding!
Paul and the gang report back about things that have happened since the recent wedding!
This episode was recorded in late September 2019 - actually a day or two before I'd recorded the min scenes for episode 300; it kind of gave me a bit of a framework for what went on in that important episode! I definitely felt that I would need an episode after 300 to follow up from events from our "big day!" In fact I've been recording follow up episodes involving this plot-line whenever I get the chance and they will fit alongside whatever other shows we have to put out very late this year and into early 2020 - I have a vision and episode 400 is already in my sights!
We Have Detected An Alien In Disguise!
Ikk and Cromitty detect an alien in disguise who is living far closer to them than they ever expected!
I can't really say a lot about this episode as it might spoil the surprise - at time of writing it isn't yet recorded - but what I can say is that it is a "living memorial" to a very important member of the cast!

Charlie relates the tale of the pie with the pastry plumage... Not everyone is impressed!
This is an episode that I have been intending to record for a while and which I eventually began work on in September. It was originally going to part of another episode connected to my return to Venice back in March - but in the end it turned into an excuse for Charlie Grrr to tell a fire-side tale of murder, mystery and pies that he was caught up in some while ago.
A Catchy Tune... But It's Too Much Information!
Harry asks Paul whether he'd help sing another song with him - but this time he calls in old friend Tallulah Twinklehorn to give him a few extra singing lessons!
This is an episode that I recorded back in August - mostly when I was away in Kent for my summer holiday, although some of it was completed on my return. This edition is another excuse to include material recorded by myself when Harry and I were recording one of his new songs. We've done this before - recording a song called "Dan" down in Kent back in November - but this time the song was called "Too Much Information (TMI)" and I was required to sing the verse. This episode winds those recordings into a story about Mr Yeti going for singing lessons with Dameus's sister, Tallulah.

This is an episode that celebrates the 10th anniversary of my poetry collection, The Shy Life, which is where our show gets its name. I recorded this whilst away in Kent for my summer holiday in August 2019 - originally I had intended to record more out and about, only the weather wasn't good enough!

There is a history to this episode! Originally I was aiming to release an episode of unfinished editions of the show, but when I came to it I discovered that one of those episodes was almost complete and could be released in its own right; however there was one segment that I could include but which wasn't enough to release on its own. Anyway - so this particular show will be made up of that segment and maybe some shorter episodes; either Radio Wey material or a chat with Bev or Wifey Jo.
