SHY YETI RE-VISITS FRANCE...

A RETURN TO NICE...

Hello beasties!!

As I mentioned last week there won't be a SHY YETI Christmas film for 2013, although last year's is still available at: http://youtu.be/vPsvG2l2bWc and there are other snowy films, such as: http://youtu.be/h6Y8QDdE53Y

Hopefully I'll have something ready for you early in the new year - as I've filmed quite a lot this year, on all my holidays, just not had the time to edit them.

This week I'm going to share with you some photos from my November trip to Nice, but before I begin, may I just remind you that my new book, NOT AS SHY AS I WAS, is out and available to purchase. I'll maybe share some new pieces from that in the New Year, although you may find a number of the pieces familiar from either the blog or from my yeti films...

NOT AS SHY AS I WAS contains over 70 new poems, stories and vignettes by Paul Chandler, a.k.a. Shy Yeti, written between January and September 2012. They include: THE BEAST OF FRIENDS, DRUNK ELK, ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM, EVIL IVY, MINE OWN MINOTAUR, ONCE I LOST MY HEART TO A CORNISH PASTY, A YETI IN A HAT and many more… NOT AS SHY AS I WAS is 288 pages long and contains photos by Paul Chandler and artwork by Adam M Botsford, Paul Webster and Pete Katsiaounis.

Paperback: www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/not-as-shy-as-i-was/14135195 £9.99

Hardback: www.lulu.com/shop/paul-chandler/not-as-shy-as-i-was/hardcover/product-21317217.html £15.99

...And so, now we move on to France...

SHY YETI'S PHOTO GALLERY OF NICE...

This was my second trip to Nice, my first one was back in Autumn 2009 with Harry - this time I was accompanied by Toby W, who also came with me to the Lakes back in the Summer. We were there between Wednesday 13th and Sunday 17th November 2013. As well as exploring Nice, we also visited the towns of Antibes and Menton - the former was a very nice little French coastal town, whereas the latter was a mixture of old and new and overlooked the border between France and Italy.

In an ideal world I would have filmed a couple of episodes in both Florence and Nice, but in the end I filmed just the one set in both cities - that is unless I decide to bulk them out with footage from my November 2013 Poetry Café show... At least I managed to film something! You'll get to see, at some stage!

That's it for now... Next week I'll be sharing with you a short Christmas-themed story... It's not a very friendly one, to be honest - but what do you expect!

So, more on Christmas Eve!

Yeti hugs,

Paul xx

SHY YETI RE-VISITS ITALY...

A RETURN TO FLORENCE...

Hello beasties!!

I can't promise anything too strenuous between now and the new year - there will be no new SHY YETI Christmas film for 2013, although last year's is still available at: http://youtu.be/vPsvG2l2bWc and there are other snowy films, such as: http://youtu.be/h6Y8QDdE53Y

I would like to be able to present you with a new yeti film soon, but that may not be until the new year now - believe me, even though I'm not editing I am still filming things to squirrel away for a rainy day! (Or a day when my editing equipment doesn't let me down...)

This week I'm going to share with you some photos from my November trip to Florence and the surrounding area, next week I'll be doing the same with Nice. The week after that - probably Christmas Eve or roundabouts, I will be posting a Christmassy story for you! So there is *something* new for this Christmas - just no film!

Before I begin sharing the photos, may I just remind you that my new book, NOT AS SHY AS I WAS, is out and available to purchase.

They include: THE BEAST OF FRIENDS, DRUNK ELK, ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM, EVIL IVY, MINE OWN MINOTAUR, ONCE I LOST MY HEART TO A CORNISH PASTY, A YETI IN A HAT and many more… NOT AS SHY AS I WAS is 288 pages long and contains photos by Paul Chandler and artwork by Adam M Botsford, Paul Webster and Pete Katsiaounis.

...And so, now we move on to Italy...

SHY YETI'S PHOTO GALLERY OF FLORENCE...

This was my second trip to Florence - my first being back in 2002 with my old school friend, Paul H. Paul was there for this trip too - along with his partner, Alex and my flatmate Calum. My other old school friend Harry F arrived on the Friday and there was even a special guest, Antonello, travelling over from Milan for the day on my birthday. Calum and I arrived on Wednesday 6th November - returning on Monday 11th November, Paul and Alex having returned the evening before... As well as exploring Florence we visited San Gimignano, Sienna and Pisa - eating lots of nice ice cream along the way!

In an ideal world I would have filmed a couple of episodes in both Florence and Nice, but in the end I probably filmed enough for one longer episode or two episodes perhaps padded out with footage from my November 2013 Poetry Café show. I did record links in both Florence and Nice and also read a poem live in each - there just wasn't the opportunity to yeti dance! Here are some of the photos...

That's about it for now - next week I'll being showing you photos from Nice...

More soon!

Yeti hugs,

EVEN YETI TURN 40

POETRY CAFE, FRIDAY 29TH NOVEMBER 2013

Originally the night was meant to be more of a birthday party for my 40th than a show - but because we ended up with more audience for the poems than people for my party I was very pleased to be able to make it a full-scale show. Sadly John Smallshaw was unable to make the night and another guest, Sally, who performed with us last year was a no-show; however we ended up with two other poets on the night - Liam and Victoria. A nice surprise, indeed!

NOT AS SHY AS I WAS... IS OUT!!

...AND HERE IS ALL ABOUT IT!!

Hello beasties!

Sorry for the delay in posting since I returned from my trips. I am happy to be able to confirm that I did film an episode filmed in both Florence and Nice (and surrounding areas) during my time away at the start of November. There are lots of photos to follow - but what with the gig coming up later this week and the new book, I'm saving those for a couple of week's time.

Here's all the information that you need to know...

Next week I'll be telling you how this Friday's Poetry Café show went and then during the following week I'll share photos from my recent trips to Florence and Nice..

I finish this piece by including something from the new collection... It's a piece called WE'RE ALL JUST BRAINS and it's one of my favourite ones. Here's a little piece I wrote about how it came to be written and what it's about...

"The first draft of this piece was written in one sitting on my train journey home between Salisbury and Basingstoke in the early evening of Sunday 9th September 2012 and was typed up the following day. It was on the 10th that I decided that some of the lines needed to be slightly re-written and I changed a few more when I actually made the changes on the 11th September 2012. The idea came to me whilst I mused about brains sitting inside people’s heads just looking out, whilst I sat on Salisbury station waiting for my train home to Woking to arrive. I like that it’s a mix of silliness and seriousness; with a nice dash of the surreal too in that it blames our brains for all our faults as if they are just some sort of lazy passenger in the human body. It’s not so far off the mark after all. This was one of the last poems to be added to this collection."

Before I sign off here's a final reminder that you can also acquire t-shirts including the artwork for ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM and THE BEAST OF FRIENDS, which appear on the front and back of the new collection.
That's it for now! More next week! Take care...

Yeti hugs,

Paul xx

WE'RE ALL JUST BRAINS...

We're all just brains inside a human-shaped receptacle...
We whizz about until we've had enough!
We enjoy fine wines and being quite respectable –
And often picture those we fancy in the buff…
We spend our money on new clothes without confessing…
We’ll pretend we never spent a cent today!
There are so many problems we should be addressing!
But our poor brains prefer to take a holiday…

We're all just brains inside a body made for doing things…
Although we're lazy and we much prefer to sleep!
It's in our nature far more often just to ruin things…
We sow our seed, yet act surprised when asked to reap!
We're good at pampering ourselves and being greedy…
We learn new facts, but often just get bored!
With our puppy-eyed expressions – act so needy!
Our poor old brains get very cross if they’re ignored!

We're all just brains inside a head that's grumbling!
We should see the good side more; cheer up a bit!
We should speak up for ourselves; instead we're mumbling…
Instead of standing up to fight we simply quit!
We do our hair, get tattoos, do our fingernails…
We try to look our best in case we pull…
We all act like we're the first; like true originals!
Our brain will say what's on its mind, yet just talks bull!

We're all just brains inside a body that is failing us…
But we fail our crumbling bodies back in turn!
We do not heed the warning voices that are hailing us…
We go on torturing ourselves, but never learn!
Oh, our bodies sit and wonder what is going on;
As our legs drop off, as organs fail to heal…
Our stupid brains act cowardly instead of being strong…
Then as we die, all they can do is sit and squeal!

HEADING OFF TO FLORENCE AND NICE...

...AND THE NEXT POETRY CAFE SHOW...

Hello beasties,

I'm just back from my trip to Florence, but I'm heading off to Nice tomorrow. It was my birthday whilst I was away, so I didn't film as much as usual - but took a lot of photos and did record some of my poems. More about all that on my return.

Just to remind you that my last show of the year occurs on Friday 29th November at the Poetry Café.

More soon - take care!

Yeti hugs,

Paul xx

CREEPTASTIC!!!

YETI HALLOWEEN 2013

Hello beasties,

This week is going to be another short post - but I couldn't let Halloween go by without writing something new for that occasion... The poem included at the bottom of this post is called ZOMBIE TAXI-DRIVER and was written between the 18th and the 26th September 2013. I intend to include it in my 2014 collection which I hope you'll be helping me choose a title for sometimes soon. (I have three possibilities!) Eagle-eyed readers will have seen me mention this on my Twitter account at: https://twitter.com/SHYYETI but I'll return to it again after my holiday.

Until then... NOT AS SHY AS I WAS has sped its way to www.lulu.com for an initial print run. I now have copies of this and LOVESONGS FOR THE BITTER AND TWISTED to wave about during my trips. If all goes well then I'll be publishing NOT AS SHY AS I WAS on Monday 18th November 2013 - which is a little less than two weeks before my next Poetry Cafe show - but I will have copies to sell on the night. I just want to make sure that it's as ready as it can be before I release it into the big bad world.

Whilst I'm here there's no harm in reminding you that there are two Halloween videos on my MRSHYYETI account. They were both posted last year and I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people who still haven't had a chance to see them. The episodes are:

SHY YETI'S HAUNTED KITCHEN

http://youtu.be/EKi1SvHV_Rc

SHY YETI'S SPOOKYCREEPY SHOW

http://youtu.be/WLnifWZGqb8

Not to mention the recent Friday The 13th live episode...

THE AUTUMNAL CREEPINESS SHOW

http://youtu.be/We5yzRhVUVo

I hope you'll enjoy watching them! Boost my ratings and inspire me to edit some new ones! I'm not feeling the video love at the moment, I need some more viewers - so get viewing, why don't you? Make an old yeti very happy in the last 10 days of his 30s!

Next week I'll be getting ready for my birthday trip to Florence and the posts for the week or two after will be diaries from both these trips - the other destination being Nice. Hopefully there will be a lot of photos from these little adventures too!

More soon!

Yeti hugs,

Paul xx

ZOMBIE TAXI-DRIVER

Zombie taxi-driver -
He doesn't need to use a map...
His rates are very reasonable -
He never needs to take a nap!
Cos he is dead and that is all -
Some luxuries he doesn't need!
Most food and homework he can skip -
Yet entrail-tea he'll sup with greed!
You'll see him tearing down the streets -
To get commuters to their meetings -
The zombie hunters don't take note...
For they're too busy giving beatings!
There is no time for being caught -
You need some sense, a little cunning!
You cannot keep passengers waiting -
Not when you've got the meter running!

Zombie taxi-driver...
Really knows his way around...
He'll not get lost along the route -
So do not fear you'll not be found!
He ate the brains of all his fares -
Who never paid the fee t'was due!
It helped him gain what's called "the knowledge" -
And soon his wisdom duly grew!
He can transport you cross the town -
With both his eyelids tightly closed!
Although his eyes are long since gone -
And he is almost decomposed...
Those zombie killers he does hate -
But that's when driving can be fun...
That's when he'll offer them the job -
As his next case of hit and run!

Zombie taxi-driver...
Sure, he looks a little pale -
He was crudely crucified...
Upon a rusty nine inch nail!
But as we know he got away -
Now he's a zombie who's forgiving!
And he drives a taxi round -
So he can make an honest living...
So if you need to get about -
Then he will take you for a ride...
But no, he will not eat your brain -
Nor any guts you've tucked inside!
Yes, he may be a shambling corpse -
He might be several decades dead...
But he's the best man that we have -
A one man undead Aye to Zed!

ZOMBIE TAXI-DRIVER is Copyright Paul Chandler 2013 and will be included in my first collection of  2014.
